A Semester Abroad

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

defying gravity

I tried to put everything in one post, but apparently the internet hates me, so I’ll just put this second half in another one. I don’t know why I’m having to split it up, but whatever. Continuing on from the snow day….

By Tuesday, the snow around Wood Green was already starting to melt, though it still is around in areas with lower foot traffic. I did absolutely nothing on Tuesday; I didn’t even get out of my pajamas. Wednesday, I had class and then went into central to get another book for my class and to try to get another one (which I found out is out of print and had to order it online, awesome). I went to the 6 story Waterstones near Piccadilly Circus and almost died from the beauty of it all. Yesterday, I had class all day, and Mallory’s flight was incredibly delayed apparently due to the residual inclement weather; she was supposed to get in at 9 in the morning, and ended up not getting in until about 5 in the evening. Last night, Manuel and I took her to the best place in London, aka Cheshire Cheese. We got a huge bowl of chips and sat around the cellar and it was good. We went to bed pretty early last night and I got over 9 hours of sleep and it was incredible.

Today, I had class, but I told the professor I couldn’t go to the seminar and Mallory and I went into central. We ate in Leicester Square and walked down the Trafalgar, Big Ben & Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. That night we decided to go to a play, and so we went to the Apollo Victoria to see if we could get tickets for Wicked. We bought two, which were pretty good seats and were only 25 pounds (regularly 50). We called Manuel and invited him to come down and try to get a ticket as well. Turns out, since he got here so much closer to the show time than we did, he ended up getting an even better seat than we did. At intermission, he came back to our seats and said that no one was in the two seats next to him, so we watched the second half of the show from the last row of the first section of the theatre. It was an incredible show; it had been playing in LA for ages and I always wanted to go but never did, but now I got to see it here in London, in what I’m pretty sure was a much better seat at a much better price than I could’ve gotten in LA. Plus, it’s London. The production design and costumes were absolutely incredible; I couldn’t believe it was real. I think I’ve been bitten by the theatre bug now and I want to see every play here; there are plenty to choose from, for sure.

I was quite a fan of the man who played Fiyero.

Well now that it’s after 3 a.m. I need to go to bed. More London time with Mallory tomorrow yay.
