IT’S SNOWING! -slam-
Oops it’s been a while. What have I been up to in old London town…
The day after the Beatles walking tour, Suzy, Riikka, and I went to the Tate Modern, which included a nice little walk along the Thames. And by nice I mean freezing. But we found an outdoor weekend book market under one of the bridges and I ended up getting a Beatles book and Utopia for pretty cheap. Books are my downfall.
The Tate Modern was pretty good. Modern art is pretty hit-and-miss, in my opinion. Some of it is way over my head, or is something that I think I could do and no one would call it art (a painting of two squares?), but some of it was really interesting. Also, while in the museum, this old Asian lady tapped me on my shoulder and asked me “were you on the Beatles tour yesterday?” When I said yes she was like “did you see yourself on CNN?” I laughed and said yes. I don’t remember if she was on the tour or not; I don’t remember seeing her but it was soo random (side note: I’ve also gotten an e-mail from my academic advisor at Chapman saying she saw me on there as well). On our walk to the tube after the gallery, we ran into the Borough Market which none of us knew was there. It’s a huge indoor/outdoor food market that is every weekend and has pretty much any food you could ever want. I bought another loaf of bread, because let’s face it when don’t I?

Borough Market. I have more pictures but I’m too lazy.
What else happened last weekend……Manuel and I finally went and saw Milk in Camden, and of course: SNOW. James and a few other people knocked on my door Sunday night and asked me if I was going to come play in the snow, and I looked out my window and sure enough, there was white stuff covering the ground! A bunch of people from the hall walked up to a park area on a hill by the dorms. It was really lovely and you can see so much of North London from the top.
Later that night, when there was even more snow, Manuel and I went on a walk in search of some sweets, and found the only 24 hour mini food mart within a mile vicinity, got some cookies and candy, made snow angels and came back to the halls and watched the last quarter of the Super Bowl at almost 3 am. The next day we went out and played in the snow for a more extended period of time. I made a snowman and pretty much acted like a 5 year old all day. Apparently it was the worst snow London has seen since I was toddling around California as a wee one. Barely over a half foot of snow, and the entire city shuts down on a Monday. No buses were running, a lot of tube stations shut down, a lot of business shut down…it was pretty ridiculous. I guess I was unaware that a few inches of snow was such a big deal in London. And then I made homemade chocolate chip cookies that night…I think some of the measurements were off due to conversions plus the fact that we have almost no measuring cups here, but the hall ate almost all of them within the hour so I guess it didn’t bother them. I took about a thousand pictures of the snow but here’s a few….not really a few, but relatively a few.

Winston, my pride and joy.
