I’ve been obsessed with the new Decemberists song ever since I saw Colin Meloy play it acoustic last month, and then even more when they released the full band version on their website. Its tale of infanticide is not for the faint of heart; in fact Colin said that “‘The Rake’s Song’ really skirts the limits of what is appropriate. When I played it for my wife, she was appalled.” The lyrics remind me of an Irish Ballad, but with an edgier rock feel.
