A Semester Abroad

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

can’t you just see us bashing about London?

Today, we had some meetings for orientation mostly just about safety and getting a little more acquainted with London and the school, and then after lunch we took the tube into central London for a “treasure hunt” where we had to go places and answer questions in groups, and which my group kind of gave up and we got a little lost wandering around and trying to get back to the pub we were supposed to meet at, but it was all right, just pretty cold. And pretty much my posts will all be pictures because it’s much more beautiful to see than to talk about.

The Bard…

and The Tramp hanging out in Leicester Square

Sir Paul’s portrait in the National Portrait Gallery (practically the only one I even saw, as well; I need to go back and see the rest of it)

Trafalgar Square

They are always getting in the way of my pictures.

Oh look what I ran into when I rounded the corner

Across the Thames from Big Ben and Parliament.

Central London is incredibly beautiful and I’m sad to say that I didn’t get to see most of it. I still kind of feel like I’m watching a movie and can’t really comprehend that I’ve actually walked around these places that I’ve only seen in photos my whole life.

We finally found the incredibly full pub and hung out for an hour or two. I had my favorite British encounter thus far when an older man in a business suit started chatting with me as we came in„ calling me “sweetheart” and asking where I was from and what we were all doing out there. Then when we ran into each other at the bar later he said that it was destiny and managed to pull off being sweet without being creepy. Those British gentlemen know how to do things properly.

A couple hours after we got back to Wood Green, a bunch of people from the dorms were going to The Purple Turtle, a club in Camden, so a huge group of us took the bus to the club and hung out mostly upstairs for a couple hours. And now I have to wake up in 5 hours to take our guided tour around London tomorrow. We’ll see if I do better than I did today; I don’t think I heard my alarm because I was so exhausted and I got a knock on my door at 9:10 saying we were leaving in 5 minutes. This means that I haven’t showered since before I left Texas. It’s not cute.
